Shark Team One Partners with Fantasea Line
Underwater Photo Solutions!
Shark Team One is proud to be using Fantasea Line gear on the upcoming Whale Shark Conservation Expedition!
Similar to great hammerhead sharks, whale sharks are endangered globally! Photography is an important part of our work since it's invaluable for shark conservation, science and outreach.
Did you know that a whale shark can be identified by its spots? We will be taking photos of individual whale sharks and are thrilled to be using Fantasea Line gear to get just the right shot!
Whale sharks have a unique pattern of spots which allows individual sharks to be identified. When scientists learn more about where each shark is traveling and what time of year they are in each location, they learn more about their behavior. When we know more about shark behavior we can work with policymakers to create marine protected areas and shark sanctuaries around the world. Photography data has already led scientists to important whale shark discoveries regarding population structure and global population size. We'll also be on the lookout to photograph any marks we see on the sharks from fishing gear entanglement and other hazards.
We send out a heartfelt thanks to our amazing sponsors at Fantasea Line for their support of our work! Over one-third of all shark species could be extinct in the next few decades if we don't do everything in our power to stop overfishing, habitat loss and speed up scientific discovery! With the help of sponsors like Fantasea Line we hope to keep these important and charismatic animals around for many generations to come!
Thank you Fantasea Line! A big FINS UP from Shark Team One!
